About St. Hanshaugen flyttebyrå
A small moving company in Oslo with a permanent crew. It is the same people who turn up at your door – not agency temps who have never met each other before.
The logo is drawn in an old style: two movers, a rolled-up carpet and a television set from another era. A small nod to all the homes that have been carried in and out of Oslo's tenement buildings over a hundred years – and to the fact that the job itself has not really changed that much since then.
Who we are
St. Hanshaugen flyttebyrå AS was started in 2024 and is based in Oslo. We move private customers and businesses across the whole city, and have grown to eight employees because our customers recommend us on.
We have deliberately stayed small enough that whoever answers the phone also knows what your day is going to look like. You are not talking to a call centre.
How we work
- A permanent crew. We use our own employees, not casual agency help booked per job.
- We tell you as we go. If we can see the job is taking longer than expected, you hear it while we are working – not on the invoice.
- Open prices. The rates are on the website. You should be able to work out the cost before you even ring us.
- Liability insured. We hold liability insurance for the work we do, and recommend that you also have your own moving insurance.
We are always looking for more people
Are you in good physical shape, reliable, and do you turn up when you have said you will? Get in touch. We hire more often than we advertise, and a good work ethic matters more to us than years of experience.
This is us

The vans are branded, so you can see straight away that it is us who have arrived. All the photographs are from ordinary jobs in Oslo.

Why we give to the rainforest
We drive a lot, and that leaves a mark
A removal van does not stand still. We drive back and forth across Oslo every single day, and that emits more than we like to think about. We cannot carry sofas without a van – but we can make up for some of it.
That is why five per cent of our profit goes to Regnskogfondet, the Rainforest Foundation Norway, every year. Not as an occasional campaign, and not as a surcharge on your bill. It is taken out before we take anything ourselves.
We also think it connects to the work: most of what we carry is made of wood. Furniture that can still be used, we would rather drive to a second-hand shop than to the recycling centre.
Why the Amazon in particular
The Amazon is the largest rainforest there is, and it works as one of the planet's great carbon stores. The trees hold carbon that would otherwise sit in the atmosphere – and when the forest is logged or burned, it is released again. That is the same bill we help run up every day we drive.
The rainforest is also where the diversity of species is at its densest. A large share of the world's known plants and animals live in rainforests, and many of them live nowhere else. If the forest goes, they go with it.
What works best is not buying forest, but securing the rights of the people who already live there. Where indigenous peoples hold formal title to their land, the forest stands better than in areas without those rights. That is exactly the work Regnskogfondet does: land rights, mapping of territories, and support for local organisations in the Amazon, the Congo Basin and South-East Asia.
Five per cent of our profit is not much in itself. But it is a fixed amount every single year, it is taken out before we take anything ourselves, and it goes to the part of the work that actually stands in the way of the logging.
Regnskogfondet is a Norwegian organisation that has worked to preserve rainforest since 1989. You can read about their work at regnskogfondet.no.
